The reasons of Fertilizer and food shortage

Adverse weather, geopolitical crises, and fertilizer shortages have raised concerns about the global food crisis

First, since the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022, the war has interrupted the transportation of chemical fertilizers, which are an important source of crop nutrients. Russia is the world's largest exporter of nitrogen fertilizer, ranking second in phosphorus and potassium fertilizer exports. The main destinations for Russian fertilizer exports are large economies such as India, Brazil, China, and the United States. However, many developing countries - including Mongolia, Honduras, Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal, and Guatemala - rely on Russia for at least one fifth of their fertilizer imports. In addition, natural gas, as a key raw material for fertilizer production, has disrupted its supply due to war reasons.

Secondly,Russia and Ukraine together account for nearly a third of global grain exports. But the Russia-Ukraine war led to the blockade of Ukrainian ports by Russia's Black Sea fleet and Western sanctions against Russia, exacerbating bottlenecks in global supply chains and causing global food and energy prices to rise.

Finally, in addition to the geopolitical crisis, factors including the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change led to nearly 1 billion people starving last year (according to the United Nations statistics). In recent months, high temperatures, drought, and floods have also destroyed crops in many countries around the world. This has led to a significant increase in food prices. This is also an important reason for food shortages.

Therefore, more Plant Growth Regulators, Biostimulants, Organic Fertilizer, biofungicides and other methods to promote yield increase are strongly advocated.
